How to Type in Korean: The 2-Set Keyboard
The standard Korean keyboard (called 2-set, 두벌식) has a beautiful logic: all consonants sit under your left hand, all vowels under your right. Typing Korean is a steady left-right rhythm — much more regular than English.
You never arrange the syllable blocks yourself. Type the letters in order and the computer stacks them automatically: ㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ becomes 한 on its own. This is why typing is one of the fastest ways to internalize Hangul — every keystroke drills the alphabet.
The layout in one minute
Left hand: ㅂㅈㄷㄱㅅ on the top row, ㅁㄴㅇㄹㅎ in the middle, ㅋㅌㅊㅍ at the bottom. Right hand: ㅛㅕㅑ on top, ㅗㅓㅏㅣ in the middle, ㅠㅜㅡ at the bottom. Double consonants (ㄲㄸㅃㅆㅉ) are Shift + the single consonant — the only time you need Shift.
Your first words to type
Start with short, satisfying words. Say each syllable out loud as you type it — connecting sound, spelling, and finger movement at the same time is what makes typing practice stick.

A 10-minute daily practice plan
Minutes 1–3: warm up with single letters (jamo). Minutes 4–7: type 10 short words, saying them aloud. Minutes 8–10: type two full sentences you actually want to say. Ten focused minutes daily beats a two-hour session once a week.
